One of the most recent additions to the Victory hardcore roster is Sacramento's very own Hoods. Hoods, made up of Mike Hood on guitar, Ben Garcia on vocals, Mario Maynor on bass, and Jeremy Roberts on drums, bring with them a furious assault of in-your-face hardcore accompanied by heavy metal undertones which are sure to leave anyone in the pit sweaty and bruised. Time..the Destroyer marks Hoods first album on Victory, and their 5th album since forming in 1995 . On Time...The Destroyer, it's kill or be killed, and Hoods aren't about to lose. The album rips the listener a new asshole with it's title track, preparing the listener for a chaotic musical experience that is sure to follow. Forest of Suicides and Broken Never Beat continue in this rapid fire attack on the listener's senses. Mike's expertise on guitar highlights this album, and he slides in some incredible metal riffs amongst the hardcore attitude of the rest of the band so perfectly you'd think he was born with a guitar in the palms of his hands. Other songs that are a must to hear are the chugging whirlwinds that are Life, Ahimsa, Endless Pain, and Above This World. Lyrically, Time..The Destroyer is jaw-dropping. Every song is well written and they are easy to identify with, which helps form that bond between the listener and the music, (a bond that seems to be fading away from the hardcore scene recently). With some of the most brutal hardcore to come out from Victory in some time, Hoods will win over even the most stubborn hardcore listener.

Well. To love that one i guess you have to love (and regret ?) the old heavy/hard rock FM scene of the late 80', no complex with singing parts and guitars you've already heard thousand times before, even in their previous albums. But as a musician i just can't be blinded by the glorious past of Europe, Iron Maiden or Helloween. "Deliver Us" regroup what is becoming all too common in the today metal scene : predictable breakdowns and guitars, standard and seemingly constant double bass, typical vocals and melodies, all with a great production and design. The legendary underground band Damnation A.D. is back after 8 years of hibernation with a new album called "In this life or the next". It's quite pleasant to see a true hardcore band on Victory nowaday after all these emo/metalcore/rock signatures, even if it's an another reformation. So, this record is heavy, metal and full of guest vocals (give up the ghost, earth crisis, darkest hour, fall out boy), 3 songs are actually old stuff re-recorded and i'm sad to say i'm not a huge fan of the ensemble. After the excellent "The Kingdom Of Lost Souls" in 1998 we were waiting for something new and fresh but it seems that the band need some time to recover his full potential. I'll surely wait for that time.

For those who love Pantera, we salute you. A Perfect Murder, formed in Montreal in the begining of the new millenium are orphans of the southern trendkill. Bored to death with their last album, i wasn't expecting a lot with this one called "War Of Aggression" (no no it's not cliche). First, say goodbye hardcore : this is a 100% modern metal mixed with trash record. Predictable, but a bit more interesting than "Strenght Through Vengeance" (who was really crappy, did i already say that ?), you have to love Pantera, trash and that metalcore FM scene full of clones all with the same sound to really get into the album, and into A Perfect Murder.

One Life Crew (OLC) is a now defunct, Straight edge, hardcore band originally from Cleveland, Ohio. Members included "Mean" Steve Murad (Vocals), Blaze Tishko (guitar), Aaron Melnick (guitar), John Lockjaw (bass) and Chubby Fresh (drums) After releasing Crime Ridden Society in 1996, the band was dropped from Victory Records after the the band was involved in a brawl with fans at the 1996 Cleveland Hardcore Fest. Victory's stance, which is one that does not condone violence -- particularly directed towards kids at shows by the band onstage -- reflects the decision to drop OLC from the label. Tony Brummel had over 1000 postcards printed and mailed out to Victory's customers, explaining the bands intolerable actions and the label's consequential decision to drop One Life Crew.

The band's sound was reminiscent of Murad's earlier band, Confront. The track Our Fight, which appears on Crime Ridden Society and proclaims an anti-racism message, was originally performed by Confront. Ironically, OLC has been accused by many as being a racist band, due in no small part to the lyrics of the track Pure Disgust, which reflects a right wing stance on immigration issues. OLC, along with Victory, tried to combat this image by releasing t-shirts and hoods that had the Our Fight lyrics printed on the back. Like many Cleveland area hardcore bands, OLC had a strong metal influence.

Bury Your Dead IS FUCKING DEAAADDD ! That is my feeling when i am listening to "Cover your tracks". The band took the same direction bands like Throwdown; you know what to expect, nu-metal ingredients sprinkled everywhere; This evolution is disappointing.
The band has re-added their famous hit "Bury your fucking dead" as last track !! Probably for not forgetting these great past moments of real and honest hardcore.
I d like to require attention about the well-made packaging design which one tell an adultery story in pictures movie form. Each song's title is also a movie's name.

If you are into Hatebreed and other heavy stuff, like old Bury Your Dead,(i think, now we can say old Bury Your Dead) dont get this shit. If you like New Throwdown shit, "Cover your tracks is for you".

Formed in 2001, BURY YOUR DEAD started off as a side project of a band called Hamartia (whose "To Play The Part Of" was released by Goodlife Records), which featured Slim B. (guitar) and Mark Castillo (Drums) were playing in early 2001. With the metalcore sound of Hamartia growing tiresome to both Slim and Mark, they started writing more moshy and less technical songs in their free time. They recruited Rich Casey (formerly of Groundzero) to play bass and Joe Krewko as vocalist and began playing shows in the Massachusetts and Connecticut areas under the name BURY YOUR DEAD. News of their unbridled energy and destructive live show spread immediately around the East Coast hardcore scenes and the band was courted by Alveran Records (Germany) , signing a deal before doing any substantial touring. The band recorded and released their debut album titled

Envision a brick wall charging at you at 100 miles per hour. Premonitions Of War is so much more than a band. They are a force. They are the ominous black cloud sitting above your head. With their take on metallic hardcore - more merciless, unbridled and infuriated than anything else in the genre, they are a humbling beast, battering you with a mess of low-end-heavy hardcore, grind and utter dirge that blasts right through you, caves in your face and stomps your remains to bits. Premonitions of War has a thunderous sound that brings to mind bands like Unsane, Soilent Green, Neurosis and Superjoint Ritual mixed with hardcore breakdowns and Allman-esque southern rock. They are a sonic paroxysm comprised of an unadulterated vocal uproar and a colossal wall of sound. Not since the demise of Carcass has the heavy music world seen a band as forceful in its ability to translate hostility and aggression into musical compositions - you are not prepared for this.

Formed in September of 2000, Premonitions Of War was manifested by three close friends, M. Gaytan (guitar), P. Meyers (guitar) and D. Schoenhofer (drums) who had been playing in bands together for close to four years. Their overall dissatisfaction with the hardcore scene and the world in general inspired them to create music that would incorporate all of their influences - from metal to rock to electronic and more- while keeping their feet planted firmly in hardcore. "We're not a metal band - we don't have long hair and we don't wear bullet belts. We want to make music that will combine different types of heavy music without expressing the shortcomings of any of them. We like to keep people on their toes and bring in elements from music scenes generally geared towards older audiences while still keeping it interesting to us," said Gaytan. Premonitions oO War added two more members, T. Amstutz on vocals and A. Amstutz on bass to solidify their assemblage and started writing music. They released a self-titled EP in 2000 and started playing shows throughout the U.S. Next, they wrote and recorded the notable 'The True Face of Panic' released by Goodfellow Records in November of 2002, touring in support of it with bands like The Red Chord, Between the Buried and Me and The Black Dahlia Murder.

In 2003 Premonitions Of War would see a lineup change that added B. Wharton on vocals and N. Hale on bass and the band now had a solid touring arrangement. They began garnering interest from various record labels and were approached by Victory Records in February of 2003, signing a deal with the label shortly thereafter. Premonitions Of War had already received outstanding press from the likes of Metal Maniacs, Terrorizer, MTV News and Outburn. The buzz on this band was building with unrelenting force.

Premonitions Of War headed south to Tampa, FL to record their Victory Records premiere, "Left In Kowloon", in October of 2003 at Mana Recording Studios with Shawn Ohtani and Erik Rutan of Morbid Angel and Hate Eternal fame. M. Gaytan said, "Recording 'Kowloon' included a lot of late nights fueled by coffee and Cuban guava pastries. We worked through evenings and mornings for 3 weeks straight, which definitely added to the genuine bitterness and the emphatic bleakness of the recording. It was amazing to record with [Erik] Rutan as we've all looked up to the bands he's been in and the recordings that were done in this studio like Hate Eternal and Krisiun".

Unsurpassingly volatile and irascible, Premonitions of War is a monstrosity that is ready to storm the front lines of the heavy music scene and "Left In Kowloon" is a paradigm that will go unmatched by today's standards of angst-ridden hardcore. Premonitions Of War truly captures vehemence and catharsis and are the burgeoning band in extreme music for 2004. Look for Premonitions Of War on the road to support "Left In Kowloon" throughout the year and beyond.

Between The Buried And Me incorporate metal and hardcore with spacey, progressive technicality and poignant rock melodies to create dizzying opuses that will redefine pre-existing notions of "metalcore". Between The Buried And Me find a way to make heavy music refined yet powerful, inventive yet distinct, and at times chaotic, then soothing. With bizarre chord progressions and relentless rhythmic underscores, Between The Buried And Me coalesce musical stylings comparable to Dillinger Escape Plan and Opeth. Their inventive, avant-garde originality respirates a stagnant metalcore scene, catapulting it to the next level. "The Silent Circus" is unique, inspired, ambitious, dynamic, and sets the trend for many bands in the heavy music genre to follow.

Founded in early 2000 in Raleigh, North Carolina after the demise of Prayer for Cleansing, Tommy Rogers (vocals) and Paul Waggoner (guitar) formed a new band to continue PFC's legacy of intensity. They picked up Nick Fletcher on guitar, Jason King on bass (both formerly in NC's Azazel) and Mark Castillo (Bury Your Dead) on drums to complete their lineup. This band would soon be called Between The Buried And Me. "It was great to continue playing music with Paul since we had been in bands together for a while, and it was even better to join up with the rest of the guys since Paul and I had known them for years and never really got a chance to do anything together. That was a very exciting time for all of us", said Tommy (vocals).

Between The Buried And Me quickly recorded their acclaimed self-titled album and released it on Germany's Lifeforce Records. The name "Between The Buried And Me" was quickly becoming common conversation in the underground heavy music world - news of this band's unbelievable and eclectic blend of hardcore and metal spread rapidly. Between The Buried And Me toured and played shows with bands like Poison the Well, Hatebreed and Malevolent Creation, in addition to playing Hellfest and Furnace Fest during spring/summer of 2002 before signing with Victory Records. Tommy says, "We are extremely excited to be on the Victory roster, we feel that our band will definitely stand out on this label". The news of their signing circulated instantaneously and fanned the flames of anticipation for a follow-up to their self-titled release.

In August of 2003, Between The Buried And Me headed to Somerville, MA to Q Division Studios to record their Victory debut, "The Silent Circus", with Producer Matthew Ellard (Converge, "Jane Doe"). This recording captures the depth and intensity of Between The Buried And Me's music - designed to mesmerize the listener with its layered effects and abstract and visionary sounds. "As far as the recording of "The Silent Circus", it was great because we had so much more time to work in the studio this time around. Musically, the new stuff is more technical and our knowledge of music matured - we are better songwriters", said Tommy. With a myriad of influences ranging from their hardcore and metal roots to artists like the Smashing Pumpkins and Dream Theater, Between The Buried And Me creates sincere, artistic songs that explore the commonalities of various forms of music while simultaneously demonstrating their extreme differences. By turns dynamic and brutal, beautifully evocative and cruelly dissonant, Between The Buried And Me provide desperately needed revitalization to every hard music genre.

"Full collapse", in retrospection, seems to be the best album of Thursday. After "Waiting", a debut quite promising, the post punk/rock and hardcore mixture of the band found it's fullest expression in this release. There is here a true intensity, great and powerful catchy riffs, beautiful melodic parts, and a singer who can actually sing and scream. Few can evoke emotions to listeners, and really few can achieve the capture of feelings in both lyrics and music. "Full Collapse" got all of this, and Thursday is a band you shouldn't miss.
